Great looking shoe

This is a great looking comfortable shoe that can be used for either dressy casual or business wear. The finishing details on the leather upper look to be really well made. My only complaint is that the shoe "squeaks" a bit when I walk. At this point I've only worn them twice so I'm willing to attribute this to breaking-in a pair of new shoes for now. I'll edit the review later if the squeaking continues. Other than that I'm very pleased with these shoes.



Update 1/30/08: I've worn these shoes another 4 or 5 times now after my original review and the squeaking continues. I'd drop the rating to 3 or 4 stars over this squeaking problem but the Amazon rating system doesn't allow me to change my original rating. Classis Bruno...

Sleek. Beautifully stitched. Comfortable. Timeless. Say what you will but these Bruno's are IMO a the epitome of what a working mans elegant go-to dress shoe should be. Worn with the right slacks and blazer the Rupennio is a total head turner and makes and immediate statement of who you are in any room you enter. Definitely an all business shoe with just the right amount of panache that just exudes quality and Italian craftsmanship at its finest. No real down-side to this shoe at all other than you must keep these shoes cleaned and shined at all times given its very detailed and chiseled design. Allen Edmonds Men's Park Avenue Cap Toe Oxfords. They were comfortable from minute #1 and I haven't regretted the purchase for even a second. When I switched to my old good shoes for a week -- WOW what a difference. The Allen Edmonds shoes were much better. I now own two pairs and they are both great. I alternate them each day and use shoe trees at night -- both practices are highly recommended. One other note: Allen Edmonds shoe polish is excellent. I was using the brand you get at the grocery store and what a noticeable difference it makes to use the Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish. Not sure why but it is much better stuff. Bottom line: If you need excellent black dress shoes that are comfortable enough to wear for long days including long treks through airports I highly recommend these. As for the price ... I'm forced to purchase shoes over the Internet given my shoe size and that the local (Caribbean) stores don't often have my size in the styles I like. I'm partial to Bostonian and Giorgio Brutini as they seem to have standard styles. This Bostonian is the first shoe I've purchased unseen and I am pleased with the fit and the look. The shoe is also stitched at the bottom and that's very important to me. Just ordered 2nd pair very satisfied

I bought a pair of these exact same shoes 5 years ago. I have just placed an order for the exact same J&M model number. After 5 years of daily use my original pair fits even better and is in great shape. I'm buying a 2nd pair as backup after a puddle incident left me in need of a shine before meeting a client. I expect I will still get at least another 5 years out of my original pair probably more. It took about 6 months of daily use to properly "break in" but this is normal for high quality leather. These shoes now rival my birkenstocks for comfort. This is a quality shoe that lasts for years and gets more comfortable with each wearing. Worth every cent!

The shoe looks beautiful fits perfectly with their US sizing charts (don't know about the accuracy of the other other charts so wont comment). The leather has a beautiful shine and looks and feels like a very posh dress shoe. The inside of the shoe is a firm but soft padding which is wonderful since the middle of my foot is arched a bit it is also a plush red (if that matters). Looks exactly as shown in the pictures. Comes in a box and two cloth bags to hold each shoe in. Great shoe. Long toe cap a little iffy but gorgeous nonetheless

If you're reading this you probably already know all you need to about Allen Edmonds: great shoes. They're well made high end footwear that with any sort of care will last 20 years. While more initially more expensive over the course of time they may end up cheaper as they can periodically be sent back to the factory to be recrafted for $95 - uppers redyed polished and sole replaced with your choice of anything from their available lineup meaning you can swap leather for rubber or vice versa if you'd like - when they've worn down after a few years. AE periodically puts the recrafting process on sale too.



The biggest non-stylistic difference between AEs and other luxury models like Alden is that while both nominally run at very steep list prices AEs can periodically be found at substantial discounts to them. As of this review at least temporarily the Soho appears to have hit that level. Props to Amazon for offering first quality shoes at closeout prices.



The Soho proper is a gorgeous shoe and currently the only oxford cap toe in their line besides the best selling Park Avenue (PA). The Soho is slightly different from the PA in two respects. First it's on the new 0 last (called the double-zero by AE salespeople) which is one of the larger wider lasts AE currently offers. The old 5 last that the PA has been on for 70 years is the narrowest and longest of all AE shoes and as a result some will find the PA just doesn't fit them in any size. For those the Soho may prove a better alternative.



It's probably not a bad idea to get fitted not just in AEs but in the actual last of the shoe you're looking to buy if you can before ordering as it makes a big difference. In general most will probably take a 1/2 to full size down from what they wear in sneakers on the Soho but keep in mind one AE salesperson told me something like 70% of the grown men who walk in her store are wearing shoes that don't fit (let alone knowing what size they wear!) so if you've not bought a set recently probably a good idea to get measured. AE is the best shoe manufacturer out there bar none in producing models that fit non standard sized (extra wide or extra narrow) feet so there's probably a size and last that fits...but it may take some time to find it. It's hard to pass up prices during a sale like this though. If you're not near an AE or Nordstrom store to try them on in person worse case just buy 2 in different sizes and spend $15 for return shipping to Amazon if neither fits.



Second the only downside is that the cap toe is a little longer than on most shoes. As such it comes across as slightly more stylish than traditional stodgy cap toes but there's a catch - you have to be very very careful breaking in the shoes to make sure you don't crease the cap toe proper which ruins the look and is why this is only 4 stars instead of 5. AE should have reinforced the cap toe to limit creasing but in this case style and probably weight won out. One suggestion is to use a bunch of AE Conditioner Cleaner unfortunately not carried by Amazon but it's less than $10 from AE directly before even trying the shoe on as it helps limit creasing somewhat overall. Conditioner is good in any case before wearing any shoe for the first time as dried out leather is bad in general - one example: if the leather is really dried out shoe polish can literally create dark spots on the shoe!



Still a very comfortable very formal dress shoe that will last for years if you treat it right. Recommended especially at this price.More detail ...

Grenwich Oxfords

These shoes fit well and they are not too pointed in the front. If your toes are getting cramped that means the shoe you purchased is the wrong size length and or width. Mine fit perfectly with no squeezing of the toes and the shoes do look like they do in the many pictures provided.More detail ...
